Privacy Policy

CreatureType is a custom iOS keyboard for searching and sharing Magic: The Gathering cards. The app is built by Coach House. We don't collect your personal data, we don't run analytics, and we don't have a backend. Everything the app stores, it stores on your device.
This policy describes the few small pieces of data CreatureType handles, the third parties involved (Scryfall for card data, Apple for in-app purchases), and your rights.
CreatureType does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
The app requests no system permissions beyond the keyboard extension itself. It does not request "Full Access" for tracking purposes — see "Full Access Explanation" below.
CreatureType stores the following data locally on your device using iOS App Groups (which lets the main app and the keyboard extension share data):
This data lives in the app's container on your device. It is never transmitted to Coach House or any other server, and it is removed when you uninstall the app.
Card names, autocomplete suggestions, and card images come from Scryfall, a third-party Magic: The Gathering card database. When you type a card name, your search query is sent directly from your device to Scryfall's servers. CreatureType does not proxy, intercept, log, or store these requests, and we have no access to anything Scryfall may log on their end.
Scryfall's handling of search requests is governed by their own privacy policy.
CreatureType offers a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase that unlocks the advanced filter keyboard. Payment is processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We never see, store, or transmit your payment information — Apple delivers us only an anonymous purchase confirmation. Restoring purchases on a new device is supported and uses Apple's standard mechanism.
In-app purchases are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy and Apple's standard payment terms.
iOS asks users whether to grant a custom keyboard "Full Access." CreatureType requests Full Access for one specific feature only: copying card images directly to your clipboard when you select the "Clipboard" output mode.

Without Full Access, the keyboard still works normally. You can search cards and insert URLs, names, or oracle text into any app. Only the "Copy Image to Clipboard" feature requires Full Access.
CreatureType is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children, and the app does not collect personal information from anyone regardless of age. If you believe a child has provided information through the app — which would only be possible via Scryfall search queries — please contact us at the email below.
Because CreatureType does not collect any of your personal information, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf. You can clear your on-device search history at any time from the app's History tab, and uninstalling the app removes all on-device data.
If you are an EU/UK resident under GDPR or a California resident under CCPA/CPRA, the rights those laws provide apply only where we hold personal data — we don't, so they don't apply here. If this changes in a future version of the app (it isn't planned), this policy will be updated and a new effective date posted.
We retain none of your data because we collect none. On-device data is retained for as long as the app is installed and is removed when you uninstall.
If we materially change this policy, we'll update it here and bump the effective date. Cosmetic edits (typos, link fixes) won't trigger a new effective date.
